Foodstuffs NZ Own Brand Compliance

Foodstuffs NZ, New Zealand’s largest grocery cooperative, manages a portfolio of own brands that cater to everyday consumer needs with a focus on quality, value, and sustainability.

Managing the growing portfolio of own brands requires streamlined processes and a simplified system for product and supply chain compliance.

The Problem

As Foodstuffs NZ expanded its private label range, the need for robust enterprise systems became critical to ensure product and supply chain compliance while supporting a wide array of downstream reporting requirements, including GS1 standards.

The PLM IT transformation demanded a trusted systems integration partner to lead implementation, data migration, training, change management, and supply chain enablement.

A key requirement was the seamless integration of the new Oracle Retail Brand Compliance platform with the GS1 National Product Catalogue, including the ability to parse and validate complex product data against GS1 NPC rules to maintain accuracy and compliance.

Our Solution

To address Foodstuffs NZ’s challenges, MSAC’s Addis platform delivered a tailored solution capable of complex data extraction and transformation, enabling seamless validation of multi-field product data against GS1 rules with automated error reporting. This ensured high data integrity and compliance across the GS1 National Product Catalogue.

Complementing the Addis solution, MSAC provided a suite of support services including supply chain engagement, e-learning modules, and helpdesk assistance to onboard and empower users.

Additional services such as implementation of Oracle Retail Brand Compliance, product specification management, system administration, reporting, data migration, and integration support ensured a smooth transition and long-term operational success.

The Outcome

The implementation delivered outstanding outcomes for Foodstuffs NZ, including real-time GS1 National Product Catalogue publication of products by order case types and other key attributes. The solution simplified a previously complex system and data landscape, introducing automated data validation with instant visibility of errors for rapid resolution.

By shifting to a managed cloud SaaS model, Foodstuffs eliminated the burden of in-house system maintenance. Ongoing product specification and supply chain management are now outsourced to MSAC, ensuring continuous compliance and operational efficiency.

"It was an incredible result, as GS1 had tried with other brands and failed"
